Be a community...
We have said those years for over 20 years as an organization. Right now, those words are really important. There are a lot of people in our metro area whose lives have been turned upside down recently.
There are some people in our community of SPARK that align with the political “right”. There are some people in our community of SPARK that align with the political “left”. And there are some people in our community of SPARK who are somewhere in between.
One of the “successes” of An Evening With SPARK (December 2025) was that we know the room was filled with people from all over the political spectrum, yet the room was filled with joy, connection, and celebration. We saw people introducing themselves to people they did not know, enjoying the conversation starter cards, and having meaningful exchanges.
We need that more than ever. Please reach out to someone in your life that aligns with a different point of the political spectrum. Ask them what they are concerned about right now. Ask for examples, and then… listen. Ask what their friends or family have experienced. After listening, then agree with everything that you possibly can. Find common ground — any ground as a starting point.
If you would like to help those whose lives have been turned upside down in the last two months, please consider donating to Source MN as they help feed those in need in their community. Source was a sponsor of An Evening With SPARK, they were our fiscal sponsor when we founded SPARK in 2006, and they led the art co-op in which SPARK was a member. They are located in a central area that is really hurting right now, and they are bringing hope to those in need. SPARK Community, let’s fulfill our mission to “be a community” by helping Source be that spark of hope right now.
Sincerely,
